Marikina readies for November 1

In observance of the annual All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day commemoration, the city government of Marikina will be implementing traffic rerouting scheme in order to prevent congestion of major thoroughfares due to the volume of people that are expected to visit Loyola Memorial Park and other cemeteries in Marikina on October 30 to November 2.

Starting 12n.n. of October 30, the local government will implement a one-way traffic scheme on the stretch of A. Bonifacio Avenue where the only vehicles to be allowed passage are those going to Marikina City from Quezon City. Motorists going outside Marikina though Quezon City are advised to take Marcos Highway via Gil Fernando Ave. or Old J.P. Rizal Street. The one-way traffic scheme will end on November 2 at 12n.n.

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Marikina advises people not to bring prohibited items such as liquor, pointed objects like knives, playing cards or any object used in gambling, firearms, radio, and videoke/karaoke machines to the cemetery.

In case of emergencies, the city government will deploy several emergency assistance teams at the Loyola Memorial Park and other cemeteries. This includes PNP-Marikina,  Rescue 161, Office of Public Safety and SecurityCity Transportation Management and Development Office, City Social Welfare and Development Office, and City Health Office.

According to Mayor Del De Guzman, this re-routing plan has used for the past fifteen years and has been proven effective.

“We hope that the public will continue to support and follow the scheme to avoid inconveniences and problems during the celebration.” De Guzman said.
