Marikina City Mayor Del De Guzman invites the Marikeños to take part in the 15th Cityhood Anniversary of Marikina whose week-long festivity was officially launched today, November 28, 2011 during the city government’s flag-raising ceremony.
The festivity is highlighted by roster of activities precursor to the anniversary celebration on December 8. Among these activities are the following: “Himig Handog Para sa Lungsod” concert on December 2, 7:00 p.m. at Plaza de los Alcaldes; grand mass blood donation that aims to collect 2,011 units of blood on December 3, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Marikina Sports Park Building; “Barako sa Disaster” duathlon at the Marikina River Park, and “Bidyo Against Drugs” short film festival; and extemporaneous speech contest on December 7, 2:00 p.m. at Teatro Marikina.
On the December 8, the cityhood anniversary date, a thanksgiving mass will be celebrated at the Our Lady of the Abandoned Church, and Recognition Night for the city’s model community, outstanding barangay council, best transport group, outstanding artists, top ten business groups, and outstanding youth organizations will be held at Teatro Marikina.
For this year’s celebration, the city government embarks on people-government partnerships where the local government taps the all sectors of the community to be one with the city in celebration.
“We would like to make this celebration a meaningful and harmonious one so we enjoin all sectors of our society particularly the private sectors in order to build with them better people-government partnerships. Together, we believe that we can surpass every challenge ahead and deliver the best programs for our people,” said Mayor Del De Guzman.
By virtue of Republic Act 8223, then municipality of Marikina was converted into a highly urbanized city on December 8, 1996.
