Del Run ensures 30,000 trees for Marikina watershed

The DEL Run (Save the Marikina Watershed Run) has successfully gathered some 3,000 runners today, April 22, at the Marikina Sports Park.
 
The DEL Run is a fun run open to all which is aimed at gathering funds to plant tree seedlings in the Marikina Watershed.
 
According to Gil Munar, Committee Head of the DEL Run, the organizers committed 10 trees for every registered runner to be planted in 20 hectares of land in the within a protected area in Rizal province.
  
“We are thankful to all runners who joined the DEL Run. This ensures us about 30,000 tree seedlings for the restoration of the Marikina Watershed,” Marikina Mayor Del De Guzman said.
 
Three different categories are available in the fun run which are 5K, 10K, and 21K. The categories are also divided into Male and Female divisions. Cash prizes, medals, and certificates are awarded to the winners of each category.
 
Medals are given to the winners of the 21K category where the first placer received PhP10,000; second- PhP7,000; and third- PhP5,000. Meanwhile, certificates are provided to the 10K category winners with cash prizes of: first place- PhP5,000; second- PhP3,000; and third- PhP2,000. While for the 5K category: first place- PhP3,000; second- PhP2,000; and third- PhP1,000.
 
Winners in the DEL Run are as follows:
For the 21K Male category: Eduardo Buenavista (1st), Elmer Samal (2nd), Cris Sabal (3rd). For the 21K Female category: Aileen Tolentino (1st), Cinderella Agana (2nd), Luisa Raterta (3rd). For the 10K Male category: Rafael Poliavit (1st), Desamito Bernardo (2nd), Crifrankreadel Indapan (3rd). For the 10K Female category: Janette Lumibao (1st), Perlita Ruben (2nd), Joemarie Alison (3rd). For the 5K Male category: Cristopher Ulbock (1st), Mervin Guarte (2nd), Ramil Lacson (3rd). And for the 5K Female category: Catherine Bristol (1st), Trisha Ramirez (2nd), Michelle Tibagacay (3rd).
 
Special awards are also given to the following: 60 years old and above first to finish the 21K category: Zaino Saripada; 10 years old and below first to finish the 5K category: Eduardo Josh Buenavista (Male); 10 years old and below first to finish the 5K category: Jassa Mae Jaromdy (Female). The winners are awarded with medals and a cash prize of PhP1000.
 
The registration fee for the 5K and 10K run is PhP400 while for the 21K run is PhP500 whereas a singlet is provided upon registration.
 
The DEL Run is a project spearheaded by the city government of Marikina in cooperation with the Rotary Club Zone of Marikina and Department of Environment and Natural Resources. It is supported by Meralco, SM Marikina, Manila Water, Philip Morris Fortune Tobacco Corporation, Arms Corporation, Delfi Foods, Puregold, and Millex Construction.
