As part of the celebration of the Sapatos Festival 2012, Marikina Mayor Del De Guzman invites everyone to join the “Tour De Takong” a.k.a. Stiletto Race on November 16, at the stretch of the Shoe Avenue, Marikina City.
The race will be held on the stretch of Shoe Avenue in Barangay Sta. Elena. The starting line is in front of Teatro Marikina and will end at the Cityhood Park covering 500 meters.
The stiletto race is open to all males and females, aged 18 years and above, Filipino citizen. Non-Marikeños are also allowed to join.
Stiletto of any kind and design can be used as long as the heel is at least 3 inches high and has a tip diameter of not more than 1.5 centimeters.
The stilettos must not be taped on the contestant’s feet. The age of the contestants, height of the heels, and the diameter of the heel’s tip will be checked to see if these requirements conform to the race rules before the winners are declared.
“The stiletto race would not only measure the strength and tolerance of the participants enduring the discomfort while racing to the finish line, but the beauty and durability of the shoes as well. This is why we encourage all our participants to wear Marikina-made shoes during the competition, because they are highly durable and comfortable to wear,” De Guzman said.
Check-in time for the participants is 5:30 a.m. while the race proper starts at 7:00 a.m. Male and female participants are set to run separately.
Contestants are encouraged to wear fabulous, sexy or unique attires as special awards will be given like the Shoe-perstar Award, Shoes-yal Award, Shoe-nique Award, Shoe Sexy for this Race! Award, and the Miss Shoe-niverse Award.
Medals and cash prizes will be given to the winners. First placer will receive Php10,000; Php7,000 for the second placer; and Php5,000 for the third placer.
