The city government of Marikina will put up a help desk for persons with disability (PWD) to guide and assist them in possible problems they might encounter while traveling in the city.
This is as stated in passed Resolution No. 13, Series of 2013 which will put up a help desk for persons with disability pursuant to Republic Act 9442 otherwise known as the “Magna Carta for Persons with Disability as Amended” which states PWDs’ privileges and incentives.
According to the said resolution, there should be an in-house PWD Help Desk Service at the Marikina City Hall to be manned by a qualified personnel to serve as an informational unit and provide assistance to PWDs.
“Through the PWD Help Desk, we want to help our PWDs easily access places within the city. We want them to see that their disability should not hinder them from reaching their destination,” Marikina Mayor Del De Guzman said.
Moreover, De Guzman also instructed all barangay councils to register all persons with disabilities living in their barangays. This is to enable the city government to easily deliver its health services to PWDs.
The city government is also in the process of establishing its Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) which is expected to operate this year.
“In the construction of our Persons with Disability Affairs Office, it would be easier for our PWDs to approach and get in touch with the authorities as there is an office assigned to take care of them,” De Guzman added.
