Marikina stages first-ever Binibining Marikit & Ginoong Makisig pageant

More than thirty candidates vying for the crown of Binibining Marikit and Ginoong Makisig were presented to the press this Sunday, August 3, 4:00 pm, at the Atrium of SM City Marikina.

The program included a performance from the candidates representing each of the 16 barangays of Marikina and introduction of each of these representatives as part of the show.

Hannah Wenceslao, an X-Factor Philippines finalist, and member of the 5th Avids (an all-girl group) and Musicians on Fire Philippines also performed in the event, after which a press conference followed.

Binibining Marikit and Ginoong Makisig is a fund-raising project that aims to raise fund for a major socio-historical project, the Dambana ng Lahing Marikina. It is a granite wall with a towering symbol of Marikitna (Inang Marikina) holding an eternal flame on one hand and the symbol of the shoe industry on the other. This landmark will likewise hold names of Marikeños who have excelled in their respective fields of endeavor and given remarkable contribution in the city’s progress.

The project was launched on June 23, which will be succeeded by a series of activities until the coronation night in December at the Marikina Convention Center which coincides with Marikina’s 18th cityhood anniversary.

Winners shall each receive bouquet of flowers and sash with cash prizes of PhP10,000  (4th runners-up);  PhP15,000 (3rd runners-up); PhP20,000 (2nd runners-up); PhP30,000 (1st runners-up); and PhP50,000 (grand winners). They will also serve as the Ambassadors of Youth who will represent Marikina in national pageant competitions.
